NEWS: Disney Halts The Lone Ranger Production

We reported last month that Helena Bonham-Carter had joined the cast of Disney's upcoming take on the classic radio serial, TV show, comic book, toy line and (probably) breakfast cereal, The Lone Ranger. Now it seems Disney may be getting cold feet...

According to Entertainment Weekly, studio bosses have expressed concerns over the movie's budget, which was - at last tally - over $200 million. This comes on the coat-tails of this Summer's expected Western blockbuster, Cowboys & Aliens, failing to set the box office alight.

EW reports that one studio insider has stated that the project is not, however, completely dead. ''It's not dead and gone. It's a priority project for the studio. We want to make this movie.''

We'll bring you more when we have it.

  1. I heard about this today on the way to work and i was thinking that the movie studios are now getting very careful with there money. Times are tough for them to i guess.

  2. I know PoTC 4 grossed billions (actually so did Tron: Legacy) but I can understand their reluctance to back a $275M budget movie...
