NEWS: Walking Dead Figures

McFarlane Toys and The Walking Dead? Yes please!

The Walking Dead is an Eisner Award-winning comicbook series that follows Rick Grimes, a police officer who awakens from a shooting-induced coma to discover the world has been overrun with the undead. Banding together with a small group of survivors, Rick battles to keep his new family safe in a world where the old rules no longer apply and where death is always at the door (quite literally.)

The Image Comics series, which is now in its 8th year of publication, was recently adapted for the screen by Frank ''The Green Mile'' Darabont. Although only loosely adapted from the comic, AMC's The Walking Dead was a commercial and critical success and a second season has been confirmed. It's therefore no surprise to see McFarlane Toys are set to release their 6'' tall Walking Dead figures later this year.

Interestingly, McFarlane Toys are using the same approach as Hasbro used with their Iron Man 2 releases, with figures being released from the comicbook and on-screen adaptations.

Series 1 - the ''Comicbook Wave'' - sees the release of four figures: Officer Rick Grimes, Michonne, Zombie Lurker and Zombie Roamer. This series is set for release in September. Series 2 -  the ''TV Wave'' consisting of Deputy Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Zombie Walker and Zombie Biter, is set for release in November.

Both Waves are described as featuring ''several points of articulation'' and come with a number of interchangeable weapons and accessories. Best of all, the zombies include ''gory play action'' including exploding heads and removable limbs.

More news as we get it.

  2. I think they might be interesting. I'd like to see more of them, certainly, although I think the humans will probably be more interesting than the zombies and the Comic Series is what has my attention piqued. The comicbook is excellent, miles ahead of the TV show.
