Well, kind of...
In the wake of the death of Johnny Storm - AKA The Human Torch - Marvel has revealed that Spider-Man will be joining a new organisation rising from the ashes of the Fantastic Four. Still employing the double-F moniker, the new team, entitled The Future Foundation, consists of former Fantastic Four members Mr Fantastic, The Invisible Woman and The Thing, who along with everybody's favourite webslinger, Spider-Man, form this new organisation whose mission is to ''save the Marvel Universe.''
Fans of Marvel will know this isn't the first time these characters have interacted. Over the years, they've had numerous team-ups with Spidey, including a classic What If? issue that saw Peter Parker join the family and the team become the Fantastic Five, but this new publication is the first time they've joined-forces on a permanent basis.
Whilst toy fans may not initially be too concerned about this, it's worth keeping in mind that the last few major crossover events in Marvel comics have - in one way or another - been represented in the toy lines and given that the Future Foundation membership may expand beyond these four core members, we could soon see this new team immortalised in plastic, especially as we're well-overdue for a Sue Richards figure.
Excellent!!
ReplyDeleteIf my local comic store was more local I'd be all over this, but given that I only get to go maybe once every six months, I doubt they'd keep them all for me...
ReplyDeleteThose new uniforms look great though and hopefully we'll see them in the upcoming MU line-up!
This looks to be very cool.
ReplyDeleteIt's pure speculation on my part but given - as I said - that the major Marvel events have been in some way represented in the MU figures (e.g. Secret Wars, Secret Invasion, Civil War, Dark Avengers, etc) I wouldn't be surprised if we get some FF figures. I'd sure hope so, anyway!
