VIDEO VIEW: Evel Knievel Commercial

It's Evel Knievel! He's a K-nock-out!

Ideal produced a number of Evel Knievel toys throughout the 70s, with not just new vehicles and play-sets appearing but also new characters, including Evel's teenage son, Robbie - who even got his own natty blue costume. I also have memories of Evel getting his own diamond-topped cane at some point...

Things to look-out for in this commercial include the superb ''child-made'' banner at the start (no doubt produced by a 30-something prop master who almost caved-in and wrote it with a few backward letters) and the ''body language'' of the doll at around the 26-second mark during the Chopper ride. Maybe it's just coincidence or I'm reading too much into it, but he appears absolutely terrified.

And rightly so, as the commercial ends as you'd expect any good Evel Knievel stunt to - spectacularly.

  2. Yeah, it's funny how launching a toy into the air/down the staircase/over a ramp never gets dull at that age!
