NEWS: Marvel's The Avengers Movie Cast Details and Title Change

The Marvel marketing machine has already started to spin-up as today they reveal a few details about the upcoming The Avengers movie.

Firstly, it's worth noting that the post over at Marvel.com doesn't actually reveal much: filming is taking place in Albuquerque and Cleveland and Director Joss Whedon also handled scripting duties.

The movie's star-studded (and superhero-stuffed) cast features Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evens (Captain America), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Edward Norton-replacement Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) - interestingly there's no signs of the Wasp or Ant-Man, whose rumoured Edgar Wright-helmed movie isn't scheduled to hit theatres until 2014...

Perhaps most interestingly, the movie is now being referred to as Marvel's The Avengers, presumably because somebody remembered the Uma Thurman/Ralph Fiennes abomination that was the big screen adaptation of 60s spy classic, The Avengers.

We'll bring you more on this when we get it.

  1. Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner huh? i got nothing against Ruffalo as an actor but i'm just not too sure about that casting. maybe it's because i've always been a big Ed Norton fan and because that HULK movie was such a huge improvement from the Ang Lee one. i guess we'll just have to wait and see. thanks for the comment on the ROM blog today. it's been quite an experience for sure.

  2. Yeah, ''they'' claim that Ed Norton wanted to do a more thoughtful character piece (having written The Incredible Hulk he felt there was a lot still to explore) and that was at odds with Marvel's approach, as they wanted a more ''Summer Blockbuster'' vibe to The Avengers movie, hence the recasting of Bruce Banner.

  4. True, but at the same time, people going to see The Avengers are probably not really looking to see curb-biting and character studies...
