NEWS: The CW Developing Deadman TV Series

Years before Doctor Sam Beckett took his Leap, there was another body-jumping hero. His name was Deadman and now it looks as if he may be making the jump from comicbook to the small screen.

First appearing in DC's Strange Adventures #205 (October 1967) Deadman was originally circus trapeze performer Boston Brand who - when shot dead during a performance - returned to the earth in spirit form, seeking the man responsible for his demise. Although invisible and intangible to the living world, Brand could make his presence known by possessing the bodies of the living to act as his vessels.

Now Deadline reports that TV channel The CW is looking for a replacement for the ''Superman: The Early Years'' show Smallville and is eyeing Deadman to take its place. And why not? There's a rich tradition of the wanderer on a quest but fixing wrongs along the way in TV-land, from The Incredible Hulk to Quantum Leap and even the show that probably inspired the comic, The Fugitive. Add to that familiar concept a supernatural twist and it's a show that people - and more importantly studio executives - would immediately ''get.''

Deadman is currently in the hands of Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who will act as executive producer and writer.

We'll certainly be keeping an eye on this one...

  2. I'm not a big DC superhero fan but I do like some of their supernatural stuff and I've always thought Deadman was cool. The premise is ideal for an episodic show, too...
