NEWS: Live-Action Akira Refuses To Die

With its revolving door casting, it looked as if the much-touted live-action adaptation of the cult-classic Anime Akira was dead in the water. But fans of body horror sci-fi and shouty Japanese teenagers may be pleased (or dismayed, depending on your point of view) to hear that the Hollywood remake is most definitely back on.

As reported at Variety Warner Bros is keen to develop the sci-fi epic and after a few false starts, the studio is now back on-track.

With horror director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, House of Wax) now attached to direct and with - if the rumours are to be believed - Tron Legacy's Garret Hedlund being primed to play either Tetsuo or Kaneda (although for the remake they'll probably be renamed something more audience-friendly like Tyler and Cody) it certainly seems there's some progress being made. But given that the original animated adaptation of the popular Manga - although beautiful to look at - is a muddled mess, it makes me wonder if that's actually a good thing...

We'll bring you more when we have it.
