NEWS: NBC Developing New Series of The Munsters

NBC is developing a new show based on the 1960s classic comedy, The Munsters.

The original Munsters followed the misadventures of a kooky family of misfit monsters, created to cash-in on the creature feature craze of the 60s but - unlike their previous on-screen incarnations who'd rampage through the countryside being chased by pitchfork-wielding villagers - the Munsters were simply a suburban family attempting to muddle their way through modern life.

Although the show only ran for two seasons, The Munsters was - and remains to this day - an incredibly popular show, spawning two movies featuring (most of) the original cast, a number of new spin-off movies and a modernisation in the form of The Munsters Today. The Munsters also had their own model kits, comic book, toys and more.

Now NBC has ordered a pilot for a new series, headed-up by Pushing Daisies' Brian Fuller. According to Deadline, Fuller's vision for the show is to create ''an imaginative reinvention of The Munsters as a visually spectacular one-hour drama,'' which the network sees ''as a potential summer or event series.''

And in related news, NBC's musical comedy adaptation of  Schindler's List is slated for a Summer 2012 release.

  1. The Munsters a Drama? Someone is seriously on something. My excitement for this just vanished.

  2. I know. I didn't get that either. Supposedly it'll be ''edgy'' too...
