NEWS: New Line Cinema Developing Rampage Movie

80s classic Rampage is the latest title to get the videogame-to-big-screen treatment, courtesy of New Line Cinema.

Rampage was a smash-hit cooperative coin-op title released in 1986 by Bally-Midway in which up to three players took control of humans-turned-giant-monsters with the goal of destroying each ''level'' or city by smashing buildings, eating civilians and defeating the armed forces sent to quell their spree of destruction.

Now New Line Cinema producer John Rickard - whose resume includes the Nightmare on Elm Street remake and the upcoming Jack The Giant Killer (again, a remake) - is looking to bring the classic videogame to life in a movie that The Hollywood Reporter describes as  ''a smartly-budgeted monster movie in the vein and tone of Ghostbusters and Independence Day.''

With a new Godzilla movie in development, Guillermo del Toro's Pacifc Rim set to land in cinemas in 2013 and now the announcement of this Rampage adaptation, it looks as if fans could be enjoying something of a Golden Age of Giant Monsters over the next few years...
