Cult 70s sci-fi drama The Tomorrow People is the latest franchise to receive the makeover treatment, this time courtesy of US network, The CW.
Originally created in the 70s by Roger Price, The Tomorrow People centered around a group of super-evolved teenagers, dubbed homo superior, who - upon reaching puberty - found themselves ''breaking out'' and manifesting unique mental abilities. Imagine Alphas meets The X-Men, just with more flared pants, groovy haircuts and aluminum foil effects and you'll be in the right ballpark.
Created as ITV's answer to the BBC's Doctor Who, the show was a moderate success at the time (even influencing David Bowie's Oh You Pretty Things) and ran for eight seasons. A remake in the 90s was less successful but now it looks as if everybody will be having a jaunty time (one for the fanboys there!) courtesy of Arrow's Greg Berlanti and The Vampire Diary's Julie Plec, both of whom will serve as executive producers on the show.
As SFX points out, The Tomorrow People is the ideal CW show - Lots of potential for impossibly good-looking teenagers having angst over being different and misunderstood, while the rest of us are thinking, “Teleporatation… COOL!”
No word yet on when we can expect to see the show but you can learn more at Deadline.
