Fans. You've got to love them. And their devotion. For some, that devotion might translate to watching the odd episode of a TV show or occasionally picking-up a toy they like. Maybe they pick-up trade paperbacks of their favourite characters. Or they may even hire a full crew and cast of cult actors and create their own spin-off show...
Such is the case with Mortal Kombat: Legacy, a web-based, mature-audience revision of the videogame/TV/movie series, created by Kevin ''Fame (2009)'' Tancharoen and starring Michael Jai White, Jeri Ryan, Tahmoh Penikett and Darren Shahlevi.
Tancharoen - a fan of the series - originally pitched his vision in a short ''teaser'' entitled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. Funded from his own pocket and produced by calling-in a few favours, the short was intended to show Warner Bros. that a viable, modern take on the fantasy-based combat series could work. Tancharoen's gamble paid-off and in January 2011 it was announced he'd be making a web-based series, based on his original pitch.
So sit back, relax and enjoy this MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY reimagining of MORTAL KOMBAAAAT in Episode One of Mortal Kombat: Legacy.
Thanks to Dan over at It's a Dan's World for spotting this.
Watched it and loved it!
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting but I dunno how Mortal Kombat-ish it was...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the plug Iok! I liked how they really grounded the intro... I'm thinking as characters like Sub Zero etc step up we might start getting more MK moments for our money!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting to see what they do with Scorpion and Sub-Zero. But fantastic nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteThanks for spotting it, Dan! And yeah, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how large the cast is going to be but I hope we do get Scorpion and Sub-Zero, too!
