If the thought of making ''arrow in the knee'' gags to thousands of other players appeals to you, then you'll be pleased to hear that an Elder Scrolls Massive Multiplayer Online game is in the works.
The Elder Scrolls Online is the first game from Zenimax Online Studios, a developer set up by Bethesda's parent company to create online games. Although there's not a great deal to comment on beyond the announcement right now, a trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online (development of which must therefore be quite a way on) is expected to land later today.
Game Informer's June (print) edition features their first look at the upcoming online game but here's a taste of what we can expect:
Developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online merges the unmatched exploration of rich worlds that the franchise is known for with the scale and social aspects of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Players will discover an entirely new chapter of Elder Scrolls history in this ambitious world, set a millennium before the events of Skyrim as the daedric prince Molag Bal tries to pull all of Tamriel into his demonic realm.
"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."
Much as I enjoy a good MMO, I have to admit I'm not entirely sure how the Elder Scrolls style of gameplay - or more specifically, player-specific plotting and questing - will translate to the realms of multiplayer but I'll reserve judgement for now.
