News from the Micropolis Embassy mailing list - group member Tekwych has spotted an interesting App on the iOS App Store: the Assemble Borg App.
Assemble Borg, for those unfamiliar with the toys, are a line of interchangeable, highly-poseable sci-fi characters from manufacturer Kaiyodo. This new line uses the Revoltech line and features characters based upon completely new designs and concepts. And - to be honest - there's more than a passing resemblance to Microman/Henshin Cyborg (especially King Walder) figures.
The App is essentially a check-list of figures but what's interesting is that the App - which is in English - it includes links to a new (currently only a place-holder) site - www.assembleborg.net - and provides a number of Buy Now links to the toys, claiming they will be on sale from the 10th of December. It's still unclear as to whether the toys will finally be getting a Western release or not, as the App itself appears to be locked-out for US audiences. However, it also seems odd that Kaiyodo are going to all the trouble of producing English-language Apps and a new website for a non-English language audience...
It'll be interesting to see if the tip-off is correct. I certainly hope so, as the images I saw of the line previously had me very excited and I'd be collecting them myself, were it not for the $45+ price tag being charged by importers. Hopefully a full release is on the cards that will see them at a more sensible price.
UPDATE: The Assemble Borg English-language site is now online and the toys may now be purchased officially through Amazon.
These are really awesome looking! I hope they do make it out here in the States.
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope so - as I said above, they retail for crazy money on Ebay so it would be great to see them at an affordable price, more in-line with the 'normal' Revoltech toys (which I've seen at the $15-20 mark.)
ReplyDeleteWe'll see what happens on December 10th!
I will keep my eyes peeled for this one. : )
