Sok! Pow! Fooom! The Superheroic Massive Mulitplayer Online game Champions Online is now free to play.
Developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Atari, Champions Online is an action-oriented role-playing game for the PC in which players are given the opportunity to create their own superheroes and then take-on a series of missions to thwart evil-doers, develop their powers and generally save the day!
With thousands of players playing concurrently, the game allows heroes to fight either alone or team-up with other similarly-minded metahumans and explore a massive, living world of nefarious villains, dangerous plots and super-powered science.
Previously players were required to pay a subscription fee to play the game, but in a move that's been adopted by a number of other games, Champions Online now gives players the chance to play for free, with additional features (such as new costume pieces, additional mission packs and more) available for a fee. Alternatively, for $14.99 a month players may remove these restrictions and access the full game. (Although the amount of free content is pretty impressive anyway.)
The game is available now as a free download from the Official Site (just remember you'll also need to create an account, so do that while you're waiting!) and if you're a fan of online gaming and/or superheroes then it's definitely worth checking-out.
(And I know it's not a toy, but given how popular our Marvel Universe reviews are, it's obvious there are a lot of superhero fans out there who might enjoy this game!)
This sounds cool.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lot of fun. The character-creation tools are really outstanding, as you can re-colour pretty much every part of your character, select from thousands of different options and have literally millions of costume-combinations (which is why it's so sad to see so many Deathpools, Bulks and Spidormans in the game.)
ReplyDeleteI think that is a downside to have that much creativity with in the game. Me i would try and make more original heroes.
ReplyDeleteYou usually find people with ''tribute'' characters don't tend to stick-around that long. A lot of times the Admins will force them to rename their characters anyway. On the other hand though, some people can be very creative in the way they recreate the look of the comicbook originals...
