Composed by Ron Grainer (the brains behind such great TV themes as The Prisoner, Tales of the Unexpected and Shelley) and ''realised'' by electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, the Doctor Who theme is not only a work of genius (and much of that credit going to Delia Derbyshire's interpretation) but also one of the most recognisable TV themes ever recorded.
Want proof? Then check-out the above video. Forget about the (now out of date) Doctor Who trivia or the fact that it's a commercial for the Radio Times (the BBC's version of the TV Guide) and instead just listen to how this versatile, brilliant theme can be reinterpreted yet still remain unchanged.
Doctor Who returns to our screens on April 23rd on BBC One/BBC America/Space.
