We've seen the teaser. We've read the plot details. Now Lionsgate has released the trailer for their upcoming reimagining of Robert E. Howard's Hyborian Hero, Conan.
Obviously it's unfair to pass judgement on the movie from this two-minute trailer but... I'm still not sold on this new interpretation.
For starters, the trailer does little to explain the movie's plot (which could be the fault of the trailer people, not the movie people) and seems instead to focus on the movie's ''in-your-face!!!'' 3D effects (watch how many things are thrown at you during the trailer.) Whilst Momoa looks right as Conan and the costume designs look pretty good, the whole thing looks closer to an episode of Xena: Warrior Princess than a cinematic spectacle like Lord of the Rings. Yes, there are a couple of moments toward the end of the movie that look quite epic, but (again) the trailer does little to highlight them. Maybe a better trailer will help win me over.
Conan the Barbarian (IN 3D!!!) is in theatres in August.
