J.J. Abrams has confirmed that his next project will be the sequel to 2009's Star Trek.
During an interview to promote Super 8 (which hits cinemas this week), Abrams told Cinema Blend “The next thing we’re working on, and hopefully we’ll be able to pass information out sooner or later, is the next Star Trek.”
Given Hasbro's marketing at the 2011 Toy Fair included an early showing for the Micronauts branding, fans had hoped Abrams' next project would be the long-awaited movie based upon the classic Mego toy line. These comments clearly state that's not the case and, as there's still no release date for Star Trek 2, it looks as though Microfans will be left in the lurch for sometime yet.
