Yes, in the days before Con-exclusives and Online-only releases, we had the Mail Away figure. It was a simple concept - collect tokens from other figures' card backs, pop them in an envelope (usually with a cheque to cover some expenses), pop it into the mail and then wait for your ''free'' toy to arrive.
I owned a Boba Fett, but don't recall if he was bought in a toy shop or in this manner. I do recall collecting Action Man points and sending away for a 12'' figure, though. Interestingly he arrived naked except for a pair of boots...
The Seventies were a crazy time.
