NEWS: Universal Developing Umbrella Academy Movie

Universal Pictures is adapting Dark Horse's The Umbrella Academy for the big screen.

Released as a six-part mini-series in 2008, The Umbrella Academy -  written by My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way, with Gabriel Ba handling art duties - tells the story of a group of dysfunctional superheroes reunited following the death of their mentor. The series earned a cult following and won an Eisner Award for Best Limited/Finite series in its first year of publishing.

Now Dodgeball director Rawson Thuber is tackling the screen adaptation of the script previously written by Mark Bomback. Dark Horse's Mike Richardson is producing the movie with Scott Stuber.

The project is slated for a 2012 release.
