Fans of Marvel's Wolverine may have to wait a little longer to see their hero's return to the big screen.
According to Deadline - via HitFix - a combination of budgetary constraints, talent issues and timing has impacted the production of the sequel to the not-really-that-much-of-a-surprise hit, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, it seems that Fox may finally have their ducks in a row and will soon be in a position to begin filming the sequel.
With James Mangold signed-on to direct and a script from Christopher McQuarrie (inspired by the Claremont/Miller 1982 Wolverine mini-series), Wolverine 2 (rumoured to be titled ''The Wolverine'') was originally to be filmed in Japan. However, Fox is now looking to cut costs by filming in Canada, with a limited shoot in Asia.
If Deadline's source is to be believed, shooting is set to begin in the Spring of 2012, which would mean a Winter release. But given that next December sees the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Bond 23, Twilight: Breaking Dawn 2 and the highly-anticipated screen adaptation of World War Z, it seems unlikely that Fox would put the movie out against such stiff competition. The result? Marvelites may have to wait until Summer 2013 to see the return of Wolverine to the big screen.
We'll bring you more when we have it.
