I love knock-off, cash-in ''unofficial'' figures. For every Star Wars and Iron Man toy there's always a Space Wars and Iron Warrior figure floating around. Sadly these kinds of toys seem to be confined now to the Dollar Store these days but there was a time before lawyers ruled the world when these ''homages'' could be found in toy stores next to their official cousins.
That was certainly the case with Kidco's Space Defenders and Silver Warriors. Not at all like the popular Shogun Warriors, these robot figures featured spring-loaded launching fists and space discs, so not only could you enjoy playing with the figures in their own right but they also doubled as weapons for whenever your little sister wanted to join-in your play session.
Plaid Stallions has this great gallery of scans from the 1979 Kidco that will have you reliving your days of unofficial disc-launching action. I'm fairly sure Kidco produced more figures than are shown here, as I had a toy robot that was certainly ''of'' this line, but I don't see it here. Unless somebody produced knock-offs of the knock-offs...
Ok where can i get some of these!
ReplyDeletePlaid Stallions says they do show up at toy fares and flea markets, so you might strike lucky somewhere...!
ReplyDeleteHope so these are kind of cool.
ReplyDeleteLike I said above, I love knock-off toys like this.
