NEWS: Scarface To Be Remade (Again)

Universal has announced that they're working on a modernisation of gangster movie Scarface.

Much like John Carpenter's The Thing - which coincidentally also recently received the ''re-imagining'' treatment - the version of Scarface most people are familiar with is of course a remake of a previously-released film. The original Scarface, released in 1932, followed the rise and fall of a bootlegger in Prohibition-era Chicago. The 1983 update saw the story re-interpreted with a contemporary twist as the tale of a Cuban immigrant in Miami and his rise to power in the cocaine cartels.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, this modern take - which is described as neither a remake or sequel to either movie - will re-interpret the story again for this age.

Scarface is being produced by Marc Shmuger and producer of the 1983 version, Martin Bregman.

  1. I wish Hollywood would stop re-making great older movies like this dang it.

  2. The problem is that movies are so expensive to make these days (or Hollywood believes they have to be) that nobody will take a risk or gamble, so they resort to recognised brands, adaptations and remakes because of the immediate recognition-factor.
