AMC has announced its plans for the airing of Season 2 of The Walking Dead - which include a mid-season hiatus.
As HitFix reports, Season 2 kicks off on October 16th with a 90-minute opening episode. The show will return to its regular one-hour run time for six weeks before going on mid-season hiatus. The show then returns on Sunday February 12th for the last six episodes of the season.
It's unclear as to whether the departure/release of original showrunner Frank Darabont influenced this decision or whether AMC is simply banking one of its most-popular shows to fill the usual post-Christmas programming lull.
AMC has also announced that the February run of The Walking Dead is to be paired with Kevin Smith's Secret Stash, a behind-the-scenes, fly-on-the-wall reality show following the daily events at Smith's comic store, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 16th.
