Progress on Primeval: New World - the spin-off from British sci-fi show, Primeval - is well underway, with the announcement that the two lead roles have been filled.
The Canadian-produced show will feature Niall ''Eureka'' Matter and Sara ''The Vampire Diaries'' Canning in a new take on the original, which will reportedly use ''characters and story-lines from the British Primeval series, while inserting new Canadian characters and story-lines into the local version.'' So kind of like The Office. But with dinosaurs. In Canada.
Matter's character is described as an ''inventor and visionary hero'' (so it sounds like he's Connor - TO THE EXTREME!!!!!!!), with Canning playing a ''predator attack expert'' (that would be Abby then - also TO THE EXTREME!!!!!!!!) Also on-board are Danny Rahim, Geoff Gustafason and Miranda ''Jake 2.0'' Frigon. Lending the show some additional genre credentials, Amanda ''Stargate: SG-1/Sanctuary'' Tapping has signed-on in a directorial role.
Strangely, according to The Hollywood Reporter, UK cast member Andrew ''Connor'' Potts is set to guest star in the show, which is being produced in conjunction with the original show's producers, Impossible Pictures.
There's no word yet on when the show will air in the US - or indeed if it's to be picked-up by any network - but we'll keep you posted.
