SLUG Zombies Series 2 - Cleopatra Commin'Atcha

OK, with that out of the way (and now stuck in your head), let's move onto the Review.

Sculpt & Design
Cleopatra Commin'Atcha is, as you may have gathered, an Egyptian Pharaoh and, as such, everything you'd expect from such a concept is pretty much present and correct. From her snake-themed headdress to her Egyptian-style necklace and even her braided hair, the sculptors have done a great job capturing the Ancient Egypt-ness of the character concept.

Although it's always cool to see the full figure, one thing I like is that JAKKS Pacific sometimes mixes things up a little by adding these ''boxed'' characters to the line-up. In the past we've seen similarly constrained figures such as Jon B. Gone and Decayin' Dom (see below) along with future releases Trashcan Sam and Dismembered Dennis, all of which are great examples of the designers adding an extra twist to the zombie concept and Cleo here is no exception.

Emerging from her oversized - and very nicely detailed - Canopic Jar, Cleopatra Commin'Atcha has a superbly spooky sculpt, with one hand supporting her as she emerges, the other clawing at the air (and no doubt, human passers-by.) Of particular note is the facial sculpt, which is excellent. Her skin is pock-marked and rotting, there's a fantastic cadaverous appearance to her cheeks and - coolest of all - the screaming mouth features a superbly detailed tongue and teeth. It's something I mention in virtually every Review I do of the line but the level of detail on these figures - especially when you consider their size - is fantastic.

Final Thoughts
I really like that JAKKS Pacific decided to go with a ''contained'' figure here. We've already seen what they can do with an Egyptian Mummy in the form of Series 1's King Guts, so it was a smart move to do something different with a character I assume is his queen. But at the same time, I love the sculpt work on this figure so much that part of me feels that I'm missing out by not seeing her in her full glory. Still, that's a minor point and, if you think about it, it's a strong testament to just how cool she looks. And who knows, maybe in the future we'll get an ''unboxed'' version of the figure. I'd certainly hope so.

Cleopatra Commin'Atcha features one of the best face sculpts in the line, a superb gross-out bit of detail that's sculpted and molded perfectly to capture the nastiness of the zombie infection. Indeed, I could imagine it would probably scare or gross-out a few kids - or rather, a lot of parents would think it will scare or gross-out their kids - which is a good thing in my book, as kids love scary, gross stuff.

A fun historical homage with some superb detail and great gross-out sculpting.

Final Score: B+
