Marvel has announced the return of a few fan-favorites in their upcoming sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along with the addition of a new face.
On the returning role front, Variety has confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johannson and Cobie Smulders will all be reprising their roles as Nick Fury, The Black Widow and Agent Maria Hill respectively alongside returning star Chris Evans, who will once again be playing the star-spangled super soldier. The return of the SHIELD team comes as no real surprise, given how pivotal the organization's role was in both The Avengers and indeed the entire Marvel movie series. No word yet on the return of Agent Coulson.
On the new faces front, Frank Grillo (The Grey, Prison Break) joins the cast as the villainous mercenary for hire, Crossbones. With Captain America being one of Marvel's more ''grounded'' characters, it makes sense to have him square-off against an equally believable nemesis, although where Crossbones will fit into the whole Winter Soldier story line or if Marvel will be adapting the events of the Civil War series - in which Crossbones played a pivotal role in relation to Captain America - remains to be seen.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set for a 2014 release.
