It comes as no surprise to learn that despite a luke-warm critical reception, The Amazing Spider-Man is to spawn a sequel. And today we've news of the first confirmed additions to the cast.
First up, returning director Mark Webb announced yesterday via Twitter that Chronicle's Dane DeHaan is set to appear as Peter Parker's BFF Harry Osborn. As anybody who's read the comics - or has seen the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies - knows, Harry is the son of Norman Osborn, AKA The Green Goblin, an identity Harry later assumes. How this will play out in the Amazing Spider-Man universe remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Sony has announced that Jamie Foxx will be taking on villain duties in the sequel as the electricity-wielding bad guy, Electro. Speaking to ET Online, the actor expressed his excitement about the role, stating ''I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a ... genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.''
Production is scheduled to begin on the as-yet-untitled sequel early next year, ahead of a 2014 release.
