Action Figure Times reports that Mattel's 1960s astronaut toy, Major Matt Mason, will be making his way to the big screen, courtesy of Tom Hanks.
Major Matt Mason is a live-action, 3D movie penned by Hanks and Graham Yost and produced by the Oscar-winning actor's Playtone Productions. Based on the fondly-remembered line of 1960s Mattel toys it's being described as a ''family film about space adventure.'' According to The Hollywood Reporter Hanks has approached long-time collaborator Robert Zemeckis to direct the feature, although he has yet to sign-on for the $100 million project.
