NEWS: DC Universe Online Going Free To Play

Sony's Massive Multiplayer Online superhero game, DC Universe Online is moving to a free-to-play subscription model.

Released in January of this year, DC Universe Online is Sony's attempt to meld the brand-power of the DC canon with their experience in Massive Multiplayer Online game development. Although initial reviews were fair-to-middling, Sony has added additional content and rolled-out numerous bug-fixes over the last few months. Now the latest move sees Sony offering a new multi-tier subscription service, which includes a ''free to play'' option.

The subscription options are split into three divisions: a Legendary subscription costs $15 per month and sees players having access to all in-game content; Premium level - which comes with a few restrictions - can be unlocked by spending $5 or more in the DCUO store and Free is as it suggests. It's worth noting that Free players have - as you'd expect - the most restrictions but they do have the option to buy additional character slots and expansions.

Now word yet on when the game will be moving to the free-to-play model, but until that time you can learn more about DC Universe Online and its new pricing model at the official site.
