Fans disappointed by the upcoming GI Joe: Retaliation figures who were considering their future as GI Joe collectors won't want to miss out on this.
Yesterday Gyre-Viper at Joe Declassified posted a series of images featuring a number of previously-unseen GI Joe figures with little in the way of explanation. Was this a cancelled line of figures? A series of bootlegs? A mail-in range?
After some investigation the guys at General Joes discovered from a source they describe as ''extremely reliable'' that the figures are part of a new range of ''regular'' (i.e. non-movie) Joes intended for sale at ''Dollar Stores.'' Given the level of detail and the amount of gear included, one would have to assume that they're referring to ''Dollar plus'' stores such as Dollar General and Family Dollar (the latter of which previously carried a range of Marvel Universe exclusives) rather than the ''everything's a Dollar''-style of store.
Hasbro has yet to confirm their plans (or indeed even acknowledge the line's existence) but here's hoping the figures wind-up at retail, as the cool blend of vintage aesthetics and modern manufacturing techniques looks pretty awesome to me.
And yeah, they even come with stands.

Well dang, that's kind of cool. Remember those single packaged Joe figures found at Family Dollar and such during the SpyTroops era?
ReplyDeleteI'm liking that black Cobra Trooper and Shipwreck don't look too shabby either.
Yeah, I still occasionally see some non-equipped, single Joes in Dollar General.
DeleteYeah, I don't mind that they're recycling a lot of parts and kitbashing them when they look that good!
Indeed.
ReplyDeleteI like these darker colors very cool.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it kind of makes me wonder what Hasbro were thinking with the Retaliation figures now, given that these ones do a much better job of appealing to kids and collectors.
DeleteI've never been a big fan of that version of Snake Eyes, but I'm a whore for Snake Eyes and would buy this figure in a second.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's funny watching ARAH now how little Snake Eyes actually does in it, aside from stand around in that not-very-Ninja-ish costume. But yeah, I'll be buying, too!
