Fans of vintage toys (or those old enough to have owned him originally) will be pleased to see a new line of upcoming Captain Action toys, now up for Pre-Order over at Big Bad Toy Store.
Captain Action was Ideal's answer to GI Joe (interestingly both were the brainchild of toy developer Stan Weston), but rather than be just a combat hero, Captain Action took on a more heroic mantle - and sometimes even the mantle of other heroes.
Due to a smart licensing agreement Weston had hammered out, Captain Action was produced with a line of costumes that allowed him to become other popular heroes, including Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Flash Gordon and more, in a manner similar to that seen with Henshin Cyborg and his multiple costumes.
Retro toy specialists Round Two are set to release their updated Captain Action later this year, along with Spider-Man and Captain America costume sets. The accessory-laden costumes also include a collectable range of pieces that will - when completed - form a Hawkeye outfit. Double-plus good!
And I'll bet a million dollars that they will far surpass Mattel's Retro-Action attempts. If nothing else, Captain Action won't be all hunched over with a bad back!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I ever had a Captain Action but he's familiar for some reason. Maybe I saw ads in old Marvel comics or something...
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, he is looking pretty good.
