NEWS: Roy Skelton 1931 - 2011

Veteran British voice-over artist Roy Skelton passed away today at the age of 79, following a stroke.

Skelton is perhaps best remembered for his work on sci-fi series Doctor Who, where he provided the voices of the first Cybermen (with an incredibly creepy mix of tones and stresses that truly enhanced their cybernetic nature) and the Daleks. At the opposite end of the spectrum, he also voiced puppets George and Zippy in childrens' TV show, Rainbow, where he'd often engage in conversations between the two characters, switching voices ''live'' as needed.

The return of Doctor Who to our screens in 2005 saw Nicholas Briggs take on voice duties for the Daleks, his delivery and performances are very much done in the style developed by Skelton.
