NEWS: Akira Remake Gets New Director

It may still be languishing in Development Hell but it seems the live-action remake of cult classic Anime, Akira, has at least finally landed a director.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spanish Jaume Collet-Serra (The Orphanage, Unknown) has been tapped by Warner Bros to direct the latest version of the script, written by Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves.

There's still no word on the casting following the failure between Warner Bros and Keanu Reeves to reach any form of agreement, but here's hoping the studio will shift their focus to some younger talent, given that both Tetsuo and Kaneda - the leads in the original - were both teenagers.

We'll bring you more when we have it.
