Marvel has announced that James Gunn is to direct their upcoming adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy.
The appointment follows swiftly on the heels of the movie's announcement (along with four other comic-to-screen adaptations) at this year's San Diego Comic Con. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was Gunn's ability to ''mix comedy elements with action and horror'' that secured him the position. His past works include Slither and not-so-superhero drama, Super - which was sadly rather overshadowed by the release of the kind-of-the-same-but-not Kick-Ass.
Although no details have been confirmed regarding which line-up of Guardians the movie would feature, a plot outline was circulated earlier this month which explained the basic premise as “a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants." Anybody who's seen The Avengers and didn't leave before the post-credit teaser will have a fair idea as to where Marvel is going with this...
