IN OTHER NEWS... 05/08/2013

A couple of new Simon Pegg projects, some super neat-o podcasts, previews of Defiance and Game of Thrones and the Doc Savage reboot is official! Check it all out - and more - in today's IN OTHER NEWS...

Ray Harryhausen: 1920 - 2013
We're saddened to report the passing of special effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen.

Perhaps best known for his work on such fantasy extravaganzas as Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, Clash of the Titans, 20 Million Miles to Earth, The Mighty Joe Young and Jason and The Argonauts, his work thrilled and enthralled generations and inspired other filmmakers to push the boundaries of visual effects and dynamic storytelling.

Although his style of work had fallen out of vogue with moviegoers more used to the clean, fluid motion of CGI, Harryhausen's unique style, vivid imagination and creativity will be sorely missed.

What do Fantasy Island, Star Trek Into Darkness and To Do lists have in common? They're all covered in today's Podcast round-up!

The World's End/Casting The Runes
Simon Pegg is a busy chap. When he's not playing Scotty in the new Star Trek movies, he's working on a host of other projects, including an adaptation of MR James' classic tale, Casting The Runes and the final installment in the Cornetto Trilogy, The World's End.

Doc Savage
Sony Pictures has announced that Shane Black has officially signed on to co-write and direct their upcoming Doc Savage reboot. No word on when we can expect the Man of Bronze to return to the big screen but SuperHeroHype reports that Black is considering the movie as his next project.
