NEWS: LEGO FUSION

LEGO has announced its newest interactive digital toy line, LEGO FUSION.

As the above teaser shows, LEGO FUSION sets - which feature around 200 pieces each - are constructed as ''normal'' LEGO sets and then, using a tablet running the LEGO FUSION app, the builds are ''transported'' into virtual space, whereby they can then be used in an assortment of games. So it's not at all like Skylanders. No siree.

I have to admit I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I love the idea of being able to take a real toy and turn it into a virtual plaything but at the same time, I also feel this takes away some of the creative magic that's always, for me, been a big part of playing with LEGO toys. The fact that the sets themselves look pretty basic doesn't help and although I like that LEGO is introducing another fantasy/medieval-style theme, I'd prefer to simply see a new range of Castle sets.

LEGO FUSION will be available at Toys R Us and US LEGO Stores from August.

    1. It does come off as an odd direction but I suppose LEGO has been riding the digital wave for a while and something like this isn't that surprising. I'd prefer to see them do something like they do at the LEGO Stores where you can scan the box and it ''comes to life'' on a display screen...
