VINTAGE VIEW: Denys Fisher Toys' Android

As a child I had two favourite toy lines: Micronauts and three 8'' tall figures that never actually had a collective name but individually were Cyborg, Muton and Android. It was only many years later I discovered the link between the two which, with the benefit of hindsight (plus an adult brain) is quite clear.

But for those unfamiliar with these toys, here's a closer look at the Denys Fisher Toys figure, Android.

NEWS: Glyoborg!

Matt Doughty of Onell Design makes no secret of his love of Henshin Cyborg, as this Takara-inspired, Glyos-based tribute shows. It's just too bad Matt didn't share the ''recipe'' for this figure, as I'd love to build a companion piece to my Denys Fisher Cyborg.*

Anyway, you can see more of Matt's homage in this very cool gallery.

* Henshin Cyborg's kid sidekick, Shonen Cyborg, was released in the UK along with the 7'' King Walder and Android A figures as Cyborg, Muton and Android.

VIDEO VIEW: Henshin Cyborg King Walder

Back in the 1970s, space was a terrifying place, the infinite darkness of the universe being home to all manner of hideous alien creatures, bent on enslaving humanity. And this ad from Takara's Henshin Cyborg line captures that terror perfectly.

REVIEW: Myclone AS-1 Series MW2 King Walder 1

Ask most kids who grew-up in the 1970s who the world's best sci-fi villain is and most will probably answer ''Darth Vader.'' Not me, though. For me, this guy - King Walder - was the most terrifying, evil and just downright cool threat to our planet's existence.

NEWS: Onell Design's ''Henshin Wave'' Now Available

The previously mentioned Henshin Wave of Glyos figures is now available at Onell Design's website.

Matt Doughty posted an update to accompany the new drop, describing it as ''a simple, fun release that brings us back to the days of finding a brand new figure on the shelves'' that pays tribute to Takara's Henshin Cyborg and Mel Birnkrant's Outer Space Men.

The new wave sees the return of some old favourites plus the introduction of some superb new colour-options.

NEWS: New Wave of Glyos Figures ''Next Week''

Matt Doughty of Onell Design has posted a few preview images of the upcoming wave of Glyos figures.

As we previously mentioned, Matt has cited Takara's classic Henshin Cyborg as a big influence on this wave and nowhere is that more evident than with the purple Phanost pictured here, which is clearly Matt's tribute to my favourite bad guy, King Walder.

This wave is also the first to incorporate the Axis Joint System, a newly designed joint set that allows for a greater level of poseability and articulation.

The post at the Onell Design Transmission Blog also teases a ''next week'' release date for these toys, which, despite being a full production run (rather than a custom drop) I'm sure will sell-out very quickly.

More as we get it.

NEWS: Onell Design Previews ''Henshin Force'' Glyos

It's no secret that the guys and girls at Onell Design are fans of Microman and the Micronauts, so it comes as no surprise to see their upcoming Glyos drop paying homage to another classic toy from Takara.

Taking their cue from the Henshin Cyborg range of toys, the figures are not only a tribute to the line that started it all, but - more importantly for Glyos fans - look to be the first  full-production wave to use the new Axis Joint System.  An earlier run of pre-production prototype joints sold out in under 10 minutes, so you know demand for this wave will be high!

Glyos collectors will already know this isn't the first time Onell Design have paid tribute to the Henshin Cyborg line: an early custom release featured a number of ''Walshin'' figures, including the incredible Walshin Phanost, a superb homage to the ultimate bad guy, King Walder, but this is the first time we've seen a full production run.

No further details are available yet, but we'll keep you posted.

UPDATE: Matt Doughty of Onell Design has confirmed that these are indeed full production runs and will include transparent Gendrone Buildmen, Sincroids, Travelers, Axis Joints and Phase Arm sets.  He also commented that white, black, grey and green glow-in-the-dark Axis Joints are also on the cards and more details will be released early next week.

NEWS: Assemble Borg Coming to US?

News from the Micropolis Embassy mailing list - group member Tekwych has spotted an interesting App on the iOS App Store: the Assemble Borg App.

Assemble Borg, for those unfamiliar with the toys, are a line of interchangeable, highly-poseable sci-fi characters from manufacturer Kaiyodo.  This new line uses the Revoltech line and features characters based upon completely new designs and concepts.  And - to be honest - there's more than a passing resemblance to Microman/Henshin Cyborg (especially King Walder) figures.
