NEWS: The Toy Scavenger
Much as I love modern toys, I've always had a soft spot for vintage lines. I'm sure, like many other collectors, this love comes from reconnecting with the toys of our childhood, of owning a piece of history. But if you're struggling to find your little slice of plastic nostalgia, then you may want to continue reading...

KICKSTARTER: Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light Collector's Guide
One of the things I love about collecting toys is just how many toy lines there are to chase. Some have unbroken runs of decadres and are still around and show no signs of vanishing anytime soon. But then there are the others that, for one glorious Christmas were THE toys to have and then disappeared from shelves, leaving nothing but a few worn, now-vintage figures and a slew of amazing memories in the minds of collectors.
The Visionaries (Knights of the Magical Light) were one such property. Although supported by an animated series (from Sunbow, the GI Joe: A Real American Hero people) the toys didn't fare too well at retail and were cancelled before their second wave could be released. Which is a shame, as the figures were actually a lot of fun.
Now two UK-based collectors, Christopher Ibbitt and Gemma Tovee have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their proposed Collector Guide covering the entire figure run. Go check it out for yourself and help fund what's shaping up to be a very cool-looking publication!

VIDEO VIEW: Pixel Dan's Masters of the Universe Classics - What Figures Are Left?
With Mattel announcing that the Masters of the Universe Classics line is to ''wrap up'' over the next couple of years, Pixel Dan has taken some time out from his busy reviewing schedule to sit down with (or rather, stand in front of) his epic collection of re-released and vintage toys to figure out just what we can expect to see from Matty Collector during this period. And even if Mattel don't get round to re-issuing these classic figures, it's still great to see a few choice selections from Dan's impressive collection...

NEWS: 3DJoes.com - A GI Joe Collector Site
Collecting a line with such a history as GI Joe is a double-edged sword. On the one hand it means there's a huge back-catalog of action figures, accessories and vehicles available to hunt down. But on the other hand, it means there's a huge back-catalog of action figures, accessories and vehicles you need to complete your collection. And given the age of some of these toys, chances are - unless you've a lot of cash or were an obsessively prissy child - you won't ever have them all. But now thanks to a new website you can at least enjoy these vintage toys virtually.

CLASSIC COMMERCIALS: Mattel Power Shifters Quick Change Machine
So close and yet so far... Had Mattel only thought to transform the truck into something a little more exciting than another vehicle and the history of toys would have taken a very different turn...

CLASSIC COMMERCIALS: Blip (1977)
This post over at Battlegrip got me to thinking about other early handheld electronic games - and there are few earlier than Tomy's Blip.
Like most pre-Space Invaders arcade cabinets, Blip was in fact a mechanical game. That ''timer'' you wound-up to play? It's actually a clockwork mechanism that powers the movement of the game's ''ball'' - an LED mounted on a moving pivot that would idle its way to and fro across the game ''screen'' in response to your button presses. Or rather, button very hard holds...
Yes, even by the standards of the day it was primitive. And whilst many people attribute the Game and Watch series to kickstarting the hand-held gaming revolution, credit must go to Blip for being the Granddaddy of them all.

CLASSIC COMMERCIALS: MASK Switchblade, Rhino & Thunderhawk
I never owned any MASK toys when I was a kid and it's been a while since we featured a Classic Commercial but last night I dreamed a previously-unknown friend of the family bequeathed me his mint collection of vehicles and figures. So who am I do deny my subconscious?
