Based on the original screen adaptation from 1968, the first wave of figures includes Dr Zaius, Cornelius and a Gorilla Solder, complete with multiple points of articulation, stunningly life-like sculpting and movie-accurate accessories, with each figure standing at around 7'' tall. Fans went ape (ha!) for the original movie merchandise and - if the reaction online is anything to go by - these figures are sure to prove as popular when they hit shelves later this year.

NEWS: The Astro Apes at Plaid Stallions

As we told you on Monday, it's Apes Week at Plaid Stallions, where they're celebrating the best (and worst) in Planet of the Apes-related tie-ins. 

Today is the turn of The Astro-Apes, a line of 8'' ape-based figures that aren't in the least bit like Mego's licensed POTA figures, no sir.

I miss cheap, crappy toys.

NEWS: Plaid Stallions' Apes Week

If there's one thing cooler than Shark Week, it's Apes Week, which is officially now underway over at Plaid Stallions. Expect to see a stash of Planet of the Apes toys (from Mego and hopefully we'll see more of these ''awesome'' Azrak-Hamway/Remco offerings, too)  and other ape-related merchandise.

I'm hoping to see the Dr Zaius belt buckle I had as a child. When that was worn with my Steve Austin-style safari suit, I was the hippest kid on the block. Oh yeah.
