Late yesterday afternoon a number of rumours arose regarding a host of new characters in the upcoming GI Joe 2: Retaliation.
The piece - which first surfaced on io9 - was reputedly cribbed from a number of casting calls that had been put out by the movie's producers and introduced a number of new characters to the GI Joe universe. io9 has since edited their story (but you can read the original character outlines here) following a Tweet from screenwriter Rhett Reese, in which he stated:
''The news article circulating about GI Joe plot/characters is far, far, far off.''
Just how many of these ''new'' characters will be joining the cast or how accurate their details were remains to be seen. There are some very clear parallels to pre-existing characters in the Joe universe, so it could be that the writers are using fake names to avoid spoilers. Or the article could be completely made-up. We'll know more when GI Joe 2 hits cinemas next Summer.
