As you may have noticed, things have been a little quiet at That Figures for the past few weeks, so I just wanted to give you all a quick update to explain why.
It's the Summer! And that means Summer blockbuster movies! And their inevitable tie-in toy lines! Yay.
Right now things are pretty grim for toy collectors. It's been months since I purchased an action figure (and were it not for the ever-dependable Lego I wouldn't have been buying any toys), as 99% of the shelf space at my local Target and Toys R Us stores is full-to-bursting with Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel toys, most of which are either super-limited articulation (yet strangely, still quite pricey) figures or gimmick-laden, one trick pony toys.
Put simply, we haven't been doing any Reviews, as there's nothing to Review...!
Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes!
We've been doing some redesigning and re-appropriating at That Figures Towers and, as a result, I now have a room dedicated to displaying my toy collection. Hooray!
The downside is that due to the sheer volume of toys in my collection, it's taking a lot longer than I anticipated to get them all packed, unpacked, sorted, pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed and numbered. But it'll be worth it in the end...
It's The Summer!
That Figures has been going for almost three years, so it will come as no surprise to learn that I'm a little burned-out. Given the above factors, it seems now is as good a time as any to enjoy a little break, spend some time with the family, grow a beard and play too much Defiance.
Is this the end for That Figures? Absolutely not. We'll be back in the near future when the collection room is sorted and Mattel and Hasbro figure out that their collector base isn't really that interested in Goo Power Launching General Zod Hyperchangers or Ultimate Super Power Iron Man Go Spinners.
So until then, have fun, enjoy your toys and we'll see you again very soon!
Ah the blahs of summer time toys but hey it will pick-up soon and as that limited articulation goes we better get used to it because I think we are going to be seeing a lot more in newer toys and it's not too bad it's like the 70s and early 80s all over again lol.
ReplyDeleteI think this is why I'm finding myself spending more time (and money) on Lego than anything else right now. I could ALMOST live with limited articulation if it were possible to get some cool poses from the toys but as 99.9% of them are molded in the stiff arms/stiff legs poses I just can't get excited about them, as I know they're going to look bad on my shelves...
