NEWS: Awake and The River Cancelled

SFX reports that genre shows Awake and The River have both been cancelled.

Whilst it comes as no surprise to learn of The River's cancellation - given its horribly intrusive ''found footage'' format, poorly-rounded characters and unsatisfying mumbo-jumbo vagary plots - I am personally quite disappointed to see Awake go, as it was a show not only with a great concept but also a lot of heart.

Still, at least this clears more room in the schedules for Dancing with my Talented Bachelor.

NEWS: Awake Trailer at Bleeding Cool

It appears that in the slew of cancelled genre programming and each network announcing their new rehashed sitcoms and reality show schedules, one show is highlighting that perhaps all is not lost: NBC's Awake.

Following the preview clips we discussed earlier this week, there's a full trailer over at Bleeding Cool that fills in a little more detail and does a lot more to hook potential viewers. The elements of procedural show, sci-fi/fantasy twists and human drama are certainly all present in the trailer and hopefully will be evident when the show airs in the Fall.

Check it out for yourself here.

NEWS: NBC's Awake

We told you last week how NBC seemed hell-bent on removing all genre programming from its line-up. However, it seems that there is still somebody at the network who believes that it's possible to create intelligent, scripted drama with a twist, as evident with the no-air-date-announced-yet-but-at-least-it's-been-greenlighted Awake.
