REVIEW: Onell Design's Glyos Buildman Gendrone

Onell Design are the producers of Glyos, a range of toys designed to be collected, played with and modified.  Customisation is at the core of the line's philosophy, whether it's from extensive repaints and remodels to simply assembling the figures as you see fit.  And the Buildman Gendrone is a perfect example of this concept in action.

I've previously looked at Pheyden and the Founder Series, plus the special edition Solaris Echo Morph.  Today I'm taking a look at my latest purchase, the Buildman Gendrone.

NEWS: New Wave of Clear Glyos Coming November?

Matt has posted a quick comment on the Glyos Transmission Web Blog regarding the Four Horsemen's Beta Phase Xodiac, along with a few pictures of his latest mash-up.

Whilst the pictures are great, the most interesting part comes at the end, where Matt - whilst discussing his love of transparent toys - mentions how we're ''due for some new clear stuff'' before adding that ''maybe something will show up in November.''

I'm a sucker for a clear toy, so I'll certainly be watching with interest...

REVIEW: Iron Man 2's Classic Iron Monger

The IRON MONGER was built by an obsessed business rival of Tony Stark.  Unable to defeat Stark through his deft manipulations of the billionnaire's business and personal life, Obidiah Stane set about to destroy him.  He employed dozens of super powered criminals, and eventually entered the fray wearing his own huge, immensely powerful battle suit.

Hasbro's latest run of Iron Man 2 figures sees the toy company returning to the Comic series with vigour.  As previously seen, the Silver Centurion Iron Man was a definite improvement.  Does the (Classic) Iron Monger match-up to that?

NEWS: More Glyos Axis Joint Goodness

Matt over at Onell Design has posted some more shots of the awesome new Axis Joints in action, showcasing the new levels of poseability and articulation they bring.

No news yet on when the production-run version of the joints will be available - the NYCC preview-run sold out in under 10 minutes last week - but when we know, you'll know!

REVIEW: Iron Man 2's Silver Centurion

This is the first armor suit designed purely for combat by Tony Stark.  It began as a prototype on which the technical genius could try out new ideas but grew to be the toughest, most powerful IRON MAN version to date.  Stocked with weaponry and stronger than any other suit before the SILVER CENTURION became an instant classic of armor technology.

Does the Silver Centurion stand-up to closer inspection?  And who wrote the terrible pack blurb?  Read on and we'll see if we can answer at least one of those questions...

REVIEW: Glyos Solaris Echo Morph

My army of Glyos figures continues to grow with the addition of the subject of today's review - the Solaris Echo Morph.

Although carrying a slightly higher price tag than the usual $4 to $8 range (Solaris Echo Morph retails for $15) and now no longer available through Onell Design (the toy recently sold-out), he's still a figure worth tracking down if you can find him.

Why?  Well read on and find what surprises this figure packs...

NEWS: New Glyos Releases Coming Today

Following their success at the NYCC, Matt and his team are rolling-out a new concept: ''Extra Sets,'' a run featuring bonus parts for customising your Glyos army.

Set one includes a Sarvos and Phanost head (pictured) along with a new chest and pelvis piece.  They're both painted in the Gears Edge scheme (and look awesome!)

Set number two features a white Pheyden and Scar Pheyden head, chest and pelvis with painted eyes, intended as a companion set to Enforcer Sarvos.

Most exciting of all, though, is that we'll finally be able to get our hands on the new axis joints system.  The axis joints - which are fully compatible with previous Glyos releases - allow a new dimension of poseability and movement, whilst retaining the same chunky, solid styling.

The pack (pictured) also contains one set of joints plus the previously-teased production run Govurom head.  This is confirmed on the Onell Design blog.

Pricing is - as ever - very fair: the Extras Packs and Joints Pack costs a mere $4 US each.  Shipping is extra, but most orders under $10 ship for $3.

So make sure you're around today at 2PM EST when these new releases hit: chances are they won't be around for long!

EDIT: The new releases are up!  Note that Matt has requested a limit of FOUR joint packs per buyer.

EDIT #2: The axis joints have sold-out in under 10 minutes.  Extras Packs are still available here and you'll find the Gears Edge Pheyden here.

REVIEW: Marvel Universe's Galactus

Doomed to hunger eternally for the energy locked within life-bearing planets, GALACTUS wanders the spaceways in his world ship.  His body is filled to bursting with the infinite Power Cosmic - a power that grants him absolute control over the fundamental nature of the universe around him.  The forces that rule the lives of lesser beings are meaningless to GALACTUS.  For him there is only the hunger he feels.

A small fragment of his vast might has been granted to the SILVER SURFER - greatest of his heralds.  Once a man like any other on his home planet of Zenn-La, the SILVER SURFER sacrificed his humanity to save his world.  His mind and body changed forever by the power he now wields, he serves GALACTUS absolutely and without question.  Together, herals and master are a force of nature, undeniable and inevitable.

Inhabited worlds across the universe live in constant fear of the day when the shadow of mighty GALACTUS darkens their skies, for it is on that day their world will end.  So it will be until the end of time, for GALACTUS cannot be deterred, and he cannot be stopped.  He will consume world after world until the universe completes its cycle and collapses in upon itself.  Once a new universe is born out of the old, great GALACTUS will rise, and feed again.

Phew.  I guess a big figure needs a big biography and they don't come much bigger than the Marvel Universe's Marvel Masterworks Galactus.

NEWS: Hasbro's NYCC Marvel Line-Up Preview at The Pop Culture Network

The Pop Culture Network has an awesome HD video from the New York Comic Con, featuring Hasbro's upcoming Marvel Universe figures.

As well as new entries in the ''regular'' Marvel Universe line (and some amazing shots of the Sentinel 19'' figure), there are also previews of the upcoming Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger movie tie-in figures.  Given that there are Captain America toys labeled ''Comic Series,'' it would be safe to assume the series will follow the pattern of the Iron Man 2 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine toys, with Comic and Movie variants within the toy line.  It's worth noting however that the Thor line doesn't appear to carry any such labels, so presumably they're currently only planning a range based on the movie characters.  Oh well, we can live in hope.

Click through to see the video.

REVIEW: Microman M14X Spy Magician

I've been an avid collector of Microman for a number of years and have been able to amass a reasonable collection of these awesome figures.  Although here at That Figures we tend to focus on newer releases, we'll also be adding reviews of older toys you may still be able to find online or - if you're lucky - in a few specialist stores.

Today I'm looking at Takara's 1999 reiussues of the 1976 Microman line, Spy Magician, specifically the M14X series.

REVIEW: Marvel Universe's Captain Britain

Unlike his siblings, Brian Braddock is not a mutant.  Until he was a young man, he lived a perfectly normal life.  He never considered himself particularly heroic until a string of tragedies brought him into inevitable contact with Merlyn, who flooded him with mystical power.  Now he serves the British Isles as CAPTAIN BRITAIN, a hero powered by the magical energy inherent in Britain itself.  So long as his homeland thrives, Brian Braddock will protect her.

Today I'm looking at - if you haven't already guessed - Hasbro's Captain Britain.

REVIEW: Marvel Universe's Archangel

His body and mind twisted by mutant super science Warren Worthington became a henchman of the evil APOCALYPSE.  He soared aloft as a monster, obeying his master's every command.  Worthington's mind was strong, however, and he broke free of the ancient mutant's brainwashing.  Using his steel wings, enhanced strength, and damage resistance, he currently adventures with the mutant black-ops team X-FORCE.

The Holy Grail (or so it seems) of Marvel Universe releases is finally in my collection.  Was he worth seeking out?

REVIEW: Marvel's Greatest Battles Comic Pack: Dark Wolverine and Dark Spider-man

Hasbro continues their double-pack roll-out with the Marvel's Greatest Battles Comic Pack: Dark Wolverine and Dark Spider-man.

For those who aren't up-to-speed on the Marvel Universe's recent history, essentially everything's gone bad for the heroes.  Norman Osborn (the former Green Goblin) has risen to power under the guise of the Iron Patriot and is now commanding supergroup the Avengers.  However, all is not what it seems: Osborn's reform is a sham and the Avengers he's assembled are in-fact all self-serving supervillains.

Now the history lesson is over, what about the figures themselves?

NEWS: Onell Design Preview New Joints System

Matt and his team at Onell Design have posted a sneak peek of their upcoming NYCC wares, including the awesome new joint system.  As you can see from the images, it looks like Pheyden and phriends (ha!) have been hitting the gym pretty hard.

No news yet on when the new joints - which are fully backward-compatible with the old system - will be available but as soon as we know, we'll let you know.

NEWS: Upcoming Marvel Universe Figures

This article has now been superseded by a more up-to-date feature.

(LOCAL) NEWS: HD Comics and Toys No More

It's obviously a somewhat parochial story, but collectors in Georgia should be aware that HD Comics and Toys - formerly of the Pendergrass Flea Market - is no more.

The good news is that former co-owner of HD Comics and Toys, Billy, has just opened a new store, details of which you can find here.

REVIEW: Marvel Universe's Ghost Rider

Driven to desperation by the impending death of his adoptive father, Johnny Blaze made a deal he would regret forever.  His father was miraculously cured of cancer, only to die in a fiery wreck, and Johnny became the GHOST RIDER.  barely in control of the demonic powers that coursed through him, he hunted evil men across the country.  Whenever he could, he turned his powers to the greater good, but he never forgot that his fate was sealed.

The Marvel Universe line continues to expand with the release of Ghost Rider.

Read on to find out why this is one HELL of a figure...
