Since its original introduction back in 1937, the DC logo has undergone a number of changes. This year sees one of the most radical revisions to date in the form of a new ''dynamic'' logo...
The concept behind the logo - which combines the letters ''D'' and ''C'' to represent a flipped page - is that each title can add its own spin to the ident to reflect the contents, as the example below - which comes to us via Bleeding Cool - illustrates using such titles as Green Lantern and Watchmen to produce variants of the logo.
Amit Desai, Senior Vice President of Franchise Management at DC, explained the change. “We didn’t want a static logo, but a living identity that could capture the power of our characters and storytelling. What is special about DC content is the notion of a dual identity. When you think about our DC Comics superheroes, there’s a secret identity. When you think about Vertigo, it’s this notion of good vs. evil in many of the stories. And so, in addition to flexibility, the new logo communicates this idea of dual identity: there’s more than meets the eye. You have to take a closer look to understand the richness of our characters and stories.”
It's always difficult to accept a change. Some fans no doubt will love the new logo(s), with others preferring the more traditional DC ''sweeping star'' ident. It just seems strange to me that DC didn't introduce their new logo as part of the ''New 52'' relaunch...
