PODCAST: The Retroist Podcast Episode 129

Despite clearly being the work of Satan-worshiping Liberal intellectuals who intended to corrupt the morals and values of Christian children everywhere, Dungeons & Dragons was pretty much the World of Warcraft of the 80s. Not only did the core game spawn a score of supplements, scenarios and imitators but by 1983 it was so popular that it even got its own TV show in the form of - the rather imaginatively titled - Dungeons & Dragons - which just so happens to be the focus of the latest episode of The Retroist Podcast.

NEWS: Fall Season Round-Up and Air Dates

With the Summer a fading memory already (but then again, I barely recall what I had for breakfast most days) TV and Movie News has turned its attention to the Fall TV line-up with a very handy schedule for this season's upcoming TV shows.

Although this season sees the return of some old favorites (Doctor Who, 30 Rock, Community, The Walking Dead), there's little in the way of new, original shows, with the CW's Beauty & The Beast and Arrow joining American Horror Story side-sequel, Asylum and 666 Park Avenue as the only real nods to genre programming this Fall.

VIDEO VIEW: Elementary Trailer 2

I have to admit that Elementary has moved up in my estimation from ''weak Sherlock knock-off'' to ''actually might not suck'' and - although it pains me, as a Sherlock fan, to say it - after watching this trailer is now teetering on the brink of ''could be quite good.''

VIDEO VIEW: Elementary Preview

I'm a big fan of Sherlock Holmes and I dig what the BBC has done with Sherlock. So I have to admit I was very, very skeptical when CBS announced it was to produce a modern update to the adventures of Holmes and Watson, especially when it came to light that the US network had previously spoken with Hartsfield Productions, the company behind the BBC's Cumberbatch-fest. And yet, having watched the above preview for Elementary I find myself thinking, ''you know, maybe that might work...''

I guess we'll see when Elementary premieres later this year.

NEWS: BBC's Sherlock Vs CBS's Elementary

Last September we brought you the news that CBS was looking to produce a modern update to the classic adventures of the world's most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. At the time we commented on the fact that the BBC had already done a very good job of that with their update, Sherlock.

Now Sherlock producer Sue Vertue has thrown her hat into the ring in a series of Tweets and interviews, stating that she ''will protect our series.''
