PODCAST: Nerd Lunch Episode 39

You know, I should've kept my Podcast waiter spiel for this post, given it's the Nerd Lunch Podcast. Oh well. Anyway, this week's cast is about that most topical of subjects, GI Joe. Except rather than dissect Hasbro's recent Retaliation-related weirdness, the Lunchers have their sights set firmly on the past as they ponder the wonders of the Real American Hero animated series.

NEWS: GI Joe Field Manual - Now Available to Pre-Order

Earlier this month the Joe Declassified SPEC:OPs Podcast dedicated an episode to the upcoming Jim Sorenson-penned GI Joe: Field Manual Volume 1.

If the idea of a GI Joe: A Real American Hero art book appeals (and let's face it, why wouldn't it?) then you'll be pleased to hear the book is now available to pre-order through Amazon ahead of its September 2012 release.

SPONSORED LINK: GI Joe 12'' Real American Hero Figures

I'm not normally a fan of larger-scale figures (mainly due to the fact that my display space is quite limited) but these 12'' GI Joe Real American Hero figures are certainly something I could be tempted by.

Eschewing the ''comicbook hero'' characterisation seen in the smaller-scale Joes, these fully-articulated figures hark back to the earlier days of GI Joe, where each figure was defined by a role, rather than a character - something I have to admit I miss, as I do like toys that encourage imagination and ''free'' play...

Each of the figures from the four-piece set - Army Heavy Gunner, First Responder Firefighter, Rapid Strike Commando and Police K-9 Unit - is available individually, or as part of a bundled deal.

NEWS: Sunday TV Reminders

Just a quick reminder that today's GI Joe: Renegades and A Real American Hero marathon starts today at 1PM EST on The Hub. From what I gather they're alternating between the two shows and also adding Pop Up Video*-style info graphics to further enhance your viewing.

Tonight also sees the premiere of sci-fi series, Falling Skies, with the 2-hour opener airing at 9PM EST on TNT. If the critics are to be believed, this is one show you do not to miss.

NEWS: Fathers' Day GI Joe Marathon on The Hub

Stock up on Slim Jims, lock the doors and unplug the phone, as Sunday June 19th sees TV Hasbro-owned channel The Hub running a marathon of GI Joe: Renegades and GI Joe: A Real American Hero as part of  Freedom Fighters Fathers' Day.

Running from 1PM until 8PM, the seven-hour slot features episodes of both cartoons interspersed with clip and collect-style data card pop-ups featuring little-known GI Joe facts and trivia. Sounds like a bloody good way to spend the day if you ask me.
